Rappahannock County schools surpassed most state averages, and was the overall leader when compared to the four surrounding counties for performance on the Standards of Qeaming (SOL) tests.
''The results were recently published, although the tests ware given last spring.
*In mid-February, the Department of Education also wilj send parents individual scores from the testing, said spokesman Cameron Harris. The schools’ report card will be included also.
:The tests measure students’ knowledge of the Standards of Learning in third, fifth and eighth grade, as well as ten high school subjects, and will be given annuallyfbrknowledge of the standards.
"In the figure, the state will require that 70 percent of the sttidents pass the tests in order for the school to be accredited.
A long way to go
Rappahannock and schools across the state have a long way to go. In order to put Rappahannock’s achievement in perspective, only 39 schools, or 2.2 percent of the schools in the state, reached the scores necessary for future accreditation.
