S In observance of National School Counselors Week, Feb. 1-J, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you — the community, parents, grandparents, school staff and friends of ouh children — for the examples thpt you set on a regular basis.
j By using those special “teachable moments” you instill life long character traits th^t will enhance children’s successes and happiness in life.
j With escalating family and social problems — from higher divorce rates to substance atjuse, to crime and violence — children need a strong, grounded foundation in order to! make wise decisions that n<jt only affect them but also thfise around them. j The saying “actions speak loider than words” holds very tr<ie in this case. Children and yoking people are visual leamer£ and gather cues from what they see from others around them. Research suggests that experiencing a caring community provides the foundation for children’s development of character, citizenship and intellect. J Character really counts! It cobnts in personal relationships, in school, at the workplace and in life. Who you are makes a difference! It is hereditary, it does not develop automatically, it must be developed by continuous example and demand. i We all can continue to help biiild the character of the next generation — one person at a time — by continuing to exhibit good character in all interactions.
