One of Mrs. Betsy Thompson’s worst fears about being older and living alone in her' home in Rock Mills was that someday she might need help and no one would know.
Mrs. Thompson wrote a Letter to the Editor in the Rappahannock News several years ago, hoping to start a “telephone tree” for people just like herself, said Jeanie McNear, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) coordinator.
McNear spoke about the bird class she took from Mrs. Thompson, a nationally recognized ornithologist who had retired to the county.
