county residents who were asked in what year their home was constructed. There are 3,303 homes in the county.

These reports indicated that 17.8 percent of homes were built during 1970 to 1979, 17.3 percent were built in 1980 to 1989, and 16.0 percent were built in 1990 to 2000.

This new home growth coincides with a period of rapid population growth in the county. Between 1970 and 2000, the population grew by 34.3 percent, from 5,199 residents to 6,983 residents.

In contrast, the population declined from 1940 (7,208 residents) to 1970 (5,199 residents). Nevertheless, during this 30 year period, 23.1 percent of county homes were built.

The new home construction during 1940 to 1970, in the face of declining population, was likely due to the decline of family size per household and the need for new homes for these smaller families.
