There will be a Pickin' Party at Hackley's Country Store on Route 211 in Amissville on Friday. Sept. 5 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. weather permitting. Bring lawn chairs, voices and instruments and have a great time. A 50/50 raffle will be held to benefit the Rappahannock County 4-H program.
The Shepherds9 Play
Auditions for “The Shepherds' Play," the annual December presentation by Ki Theatre, will be held Sundays, Sept. 14 and Sept. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ki Theatre in Washington.
Actors, singers and musicians of all ages are needed. No experience is necessary. Come by and join fellow community members in reading and talking about the play.

Field and flower classes
Learn how to grow and care for leafy greens on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Topics covered: propagation, timing, succession growing, seasonal variances, irrigation, shade nets, varietal information, wild greens and how to create a “wild salad" patch. Fee: $25. In another class with Donna La Pre, horticulturist and year-round vegetable grower, learn how to use simple, unheated structures to produce salads in the snow. Weaving class
