Mount Salem Church Restoration Association is the recipient of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection s first award for community excellence. The honor was bestowed on the association in recognition of its effective work in preserving and restoring the oldest church building in Rappahannock County, according to RLEP president Phil Irwin.

The Rappahannock Electric Cooperative is considering alternative routes as opposition mounts to th^ proposed 10-mile 100-foot wide right-of-way and new transmission line from Potomac Edison's substation in Sperryville to REC's substation near Rixeyville.
The Rappahannock County Library is starting a drive to replenish and enhance its collection of classic adult and children's literature. The Friends of the Library will hold a fundraiser at The Meadows, home of FOL president Edward Barton in Washington at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.
