by Superintendent of Rappahannock County schools Dr. Robert Chappell who himself began his teaching career in a segregated public school in southern Virginia.
The two students were being recognized for winning a writing contest sponsored by Lord Fairfax Community College. They were among 38 students asked to research the life of Martin Luther King and write essays on their conclusions. Connor won first place and Travis won second place.
The ceremony concluded with recognition of the contributions of Wendy Weinberg for her long legal service in support of equal housing and other civil rights issues and for the gracious use of The Theatre of which Weinberg is owner.
On behalf of the Julie E. Boddie Scholarship Committee, Lillian Aylor presented Weinberg with the first Martin Luther King “DreamKeeper” award.
