RCHS has, thanks to CRC, a forest biodiversity monitoring plot on Rock Mills Road on property donated for use by Dr. and Mrs. John Tble. Like many others in the network of plots established by CRC, this plot is 100 meters by 100 meters or 1 hectare and all of the trees are tagged, numbered, diameter measured and species identified and located on a grid.
This now serves as a template for students to do research. Students are asked to come up with questions that they can research in this outdoor laboratory. Then they must develop research methods, collect data and attempt to draw conclusions.
This is the first year that RCHS students have carried out all of these steps. This year’s Environmental Science class was divided into four teams: Soils, Aquatics, Forestry and Wildlife. These teams coincide with the four mam themes in
