Rappahannock residents submitted more than 200 letters in support of the bill, McCarthy said, and both of the county administrative boards back the bill.
“When you get a school board and board of supervisors to agree on anything, that alone is a significant achievement,” McCarthy said.
Both the Senate and the House bill would allow the county to participate in a cost-sharing agreement with a neighboring school district by raising the district enrollment cut-off for such agreements from 350 to 1,200 students. By partnering with another school district Rappahannock could receive a more favorable LCI, which the state uses to calculate how much school districts have to fork over for education and how much the state will provide.
