On Tuesday, Feb. 12, the

voters of Rappahannock County, both Democrats and Republicans, will have the opportunity to cast a ballot in the Virginia Presidential Primary. What this means is that no matter what your political persuasion, be it anywhere from the loony left to the ridiculous right or the sensible middle in between, this will be the perfect chance to make your influence felt.

And there is no doubt about it, apathy is not an option. Our country is involved in wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and against alQaeda, and as a result, our military has been stretched too thin, while at home, our economy may already be in a recession. As a nation we face such huge challenges as global warming, dependence on foreign oil, skyrocketing health care costs, and the flood of illegal immigrants into our communities. The Bush era is coming to an end not a day too soon and we are desperately going to need new leadership in the years ahead.
