Agents made 307 arrests for insurance fraud, almost half again as many as in 2007. Convictions for insurance fraud went from 39 to 174. (One hundred of those convictions resulted from just two cases.)
Insurance fraud special agents presented 278 cases to the commonwealth’s attorneys for prosecution - more than twice the number of cases presented in 2007. The courts responded by awarding restitution of almost S1.3 million to victims of insurance fraud.
The IFP also investigates property and casualty lines of insurance, as well as workers’ compensation. Property fraud cases increased by almost 17 percent, while cases involving injury and casualty fraud and workers' compensation decreased slightly.
Whatever the economy does this year, the IFP will continue the fight against insurance fraud.
