There was a good deal of discussion about the importance of Internet access to attract more businesses, but mostly in the context of individual consulting practices as opposed to larger businesses which might employ more people - there is already broadband access in Sperryville and Washington. More cellular coverage was also mentioned (coverage is extensive with virtually only one provider, Sprint.)
Of the committee, only three represented businesses that actually employ people on a permanent basis - Cliff Miller of Mt. Vernon Farms, John Genho of Eldon Farms, and Nicolas Lapham of Sunnyside Farms.
No committee members from the Washington Hospitality and Visitors Association (WHVA) which represents many business owners in the Town of Washington and the county - were selected to be on the committee.
There was no comment from the public, although the Rappahannock News asked if appropriate consideration would be given to the current resident workforce, most of whom are employed by industries other than agriculture and tourism, as opposed to seeking to attract newcomers from outside the county.
The response from the new chairman was that those would be considered as a part of the “resource survey” the committee would like to have done.
