The Fairfax newspaper was originally established in 1965 as the Reston Times, a small neighborhood newsletter at the time the new town of Reston was being built. It later became one of several newspapers started by Arundel Communications with the explosion of county growth in the 1960s and 1970s. The Arundel-owned company today publishes five other newspapers in Loudoun, Prince William, Fauquier, Rappahannock and Culpeper counties.
