Rappahannock's Soap Box Derby drivers were among 100 drivers who participated Saturday in the annual Family Fun Day in Culpeper, hosted by the Piedmont Area Soap Box Derby Committee. The four drivers are dnving cars sponsored by Rappahannock's volunteer fire departments. From back to front: Alexis Williams, Castleton, Koty Brackenndge, Flint Hill, Dana Settle, Sperryville, and Cory Norman, Castleton. Drivers arrived early for the all-day event, having their cars inspected and fine-tuned. At the end of the day, success was achieved by nine-year-old first time driver Alexis Williams, Castleton, as she competed against 53 other drivers in the Stock Division, and only two proved more successful. Also driving for the Castleton VFD in the Super Stock Division was Cory Norman, 14, who kept his father, Tim, busy in the starting ramps as he raced on for several heats before elimination. Both Alexis and Cory were cheered on by their fellow Rappahannock County VFD drivers, Dana Settle and Koty Brackenridge. These and other Rappahannock County sponsored cars (Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office, Wakefield Country Day School, and The Inn at Little Washington) will participate in the local derby on June 20 on Blue Ridge Avenue in Culpeper. — Thom Pellikaan
