No Child Left Behind
Looming large in the minds of school administrators are the next levels of progress for the No Child Left Behind Act and the Annual Yearly Progress goals set bv that program. Each year the schools must achieve higher and higher percentages of students passing the state's Standards of Learning tests.
The goal is to achieve a 100 percent passing rate in the 2013-14 school year.
“It’s an admirable objective.” said Dr. Chappell during an interview with the Rappahannock News on Monday, "but it’s going to be tough.”
Achieving that requires the schools to do something called "differentiated instruction,” meaning teachers have to meet the learning needs of each individual student in their class.
