Garden club awards

two new scholarships

The Rappahannock County Garden Club (RCGC) has awarded to Charles Burke, a 2009 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, a $2,000 scholarship.

Charles is the son of Jeffrey and Rebecca Burke of Harris Hollow. He will attend Lord Fairfax Community College and is planning to obtain a degree in Criminal Justice.

He has been a member of the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue squad for over a year and a half, and is a certified fire fighter who is working on his EMT certification.

The Francis J. Leonard Scholarship, administered by the RCGC, was awarded this year to Caroline Massie in the amount of $2,000.

Caroline attended Rappahannock County schools since kindergarten, graduated in June, and plans to attend the University of Virginia, majoring in English and minoring in media studies.

Her parents are James Fletcher Massie, Jr., and Deborah Massie, of Meadow View Farm in Amissville.
