The event also includes sheep herding demonstrations, a living history encampment, an antique car shoW, Scottish food and drink, vendors, crafters, and Celtic artisans in addition to a full line up of musical entertainment, including Alex Beaton and the Glengarry Bhovs.
Started in Old Town /Alexandria in 1974, the games moved to Fauquier County’s Sky Meadows State Park in 2007. For the second time in three years, the games will move again, said Virginia Scottish Games President Tom Wright.
“We just felt like Great Meadow was a better venue. They provide a little better facility than the state park." Wright said, noting that the festival wanted a facility with an abundance of flat land on which to hold its events. “The scenery at (Sky Meadows] park is second to none, but they are somewhat limited in the amount of fiat space.”
Wnght said that the move will also bring the festival a little closer to Washington, D C. and Interstate 66, making it easier for urban residents to make the trip out to the green hills of Fauquier County.
