The Rappahannock Food Pantry typically doesn’t receive much in the way of donations of meat.
So pantry workers and volunteers were delighted and surprised when BB&T folks last Thursday donated 278 pounds of ground beef, hot dogs and bologna which they had picked up from Martin’s at a cost of $341, according to Kathy Eggers, volunteer coordinator for Plant a Row for the Hungry.
Former Rappahannock resident Betty Price, who now lives in Reston, made another Panera run last week, filling shelves with marvelous breads and bakery goods.
Tomatoes, eggplant, squash, potatoes, beans, beets, and carrots made up most of the 606 pounds of vegetables donated, and melons and blackberries made up the 24 pounds of fruit. The pantry had a long table with five or six large boxes of school supplies available for students.
