But although the numbers show positive progress on the area’s handling of gang activity, Leesburg Police Chief Joe Price, chairman of the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force, said it’s not the time to “rest on our laurels.”
“Gangs are still a very real threat to our public safety,” he said, adding that while only 2 percent-of overall crime in the region is gang-related, that number increases to 5 percent for violent crime.
“We have to remain vigilant,” Price said.
“We’re not going to give them that inch they’re looking for,” Simpson said.
