I came away with a newfound understanding and deep respect not only for law enforcement but also for the commitment that Major Jenkins personally made to the people in Rappahannock, affording us an opportunity not shared to my knowledge with any other jurisdiction in the country, where funds are not provided for professional training, where people can willy nilly pick up a concealed weapon’s permit online.
Officer Jenkins volunteered not only his time and personal one-on-one attention, as well as the time offered by Sheriff Connie Smith and Officer Angela Deavers, hut he also offered us access to his home, inviting us to his indoor firing range, teaching us with a sincere patience, the proper stance, the aim, the importance of practice, and having us watch too, a disturbing, very disturbing video, of the death of one of our law enforcement soldiers losing his life on camera to a man with a handgun on 195 during a routine stop.
