“But party affiliation will have no effect on how I view things.” Junk said.
Sullivan followed up with: “I understand the notion of not asking someone their party affiliation. On the other hand, what seems to be happening is the Republican Party is suggesting strongly to its members that one should vote for Candidate X or Candidate Y because they’re Republican. Is that just me wondering about that?”
There was silence. Sullivan moved on.
And the discussion moved on, covering such subjects as economic development - and balancing expansion of the county’s tax base with efforts to conserve and protect its scenic beauty and agricultural heritage.
The candidates - none of whom has held elected office in the county - seemed at times to struggle with answers, if not public speaking, though they all came up with at least one good point or idea. Junk, a 25-year county resident who served on the Planning Commission for 12 years, and Parrish, a lifelong resident and longtime farmer and Board of Elections member, both seemed to be most comfortable putting ideas into informed local perspective.
