Among 132 school divisions in the state, Rappahannock County is now ranked 7th for its on-time high school graduation rate.
With 92.6 percent of students who enter 9th grade together graduating within four years, Rappahannock County's school division is tied with York County at No. 7 m the state’s rankings for school divisions, county School Superintendent Robert Chappell said this week.
Divisions, which correspond to Virginia’s county and city boundaries, often contain more than one high school - though Rappahannock does not.
Highland County and the city of Falls Church top the rankings with 96.6 and 96.3 percent on-time graduation rates, respectively. The state average is 83.2 percent.
“I credit this to the employees of RC PS who work very carmgly and effectively with children, especially our teachers and support staff," Chappell said.
The county school system also recently reported a zeropercent dropout rate for the 2008-2009 school year, the second time it achieved that rate in the last three school years, Chappell said.
