Paul A. Poling of Amissville was recognized Oct. 20 as the “Founding Father” of the Commonwealth’s first high school based Fire Science Program which he established in 1981 to ensure that training of future firefighters and EMTs would be part of a high school curriculum.
At a ceremony in the training room of the Warrenton EMS Station, Poling received a plaque honoring his achievement from Selby Jacobs, retired chief of Prince William County Fire and Rescue and former acting chief for Fauquier County.
Terry Nyhous, representing the Fauquier Board of Supervisors, presented Poling with a proclamation, honoring him for many contributions to the citizens of Fauquier County and for promoting public safety.
Sam Tarr, representing the Town Council, presented a plaque to Poling which will hang in the training room of the Warrenton EMS Station in his honor.
