Poling’s tireless efforts to the program, included James C. Kelly, retired Director of Fire Service Training, Roger Sites, Fauquier County High School, Bill Shelton, Jr., Virginia Department of Fire Programs, Charles Mosby, representing the Central Virginia Firefighters Association and Bill Spaulding, retired captain of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Thomas Billington, who is the current Fire Chief for the Fauquier County Fire Department, made closing remarks.
Current students in the program were allowed to join in the ceremony to learn first hand how their program developed.
The Fire Science Program has continued to thrive and has graduated many students who have made fire service their livelihood. The majority of graduates have served as chiefs for various fire departments. Chief Jacobs hopes to expand the program to include a two-year degree from a local community college and a four-year degree from the University of Phoenix.
