About five weeks ago, junior Logan McKieman, a starter for Rappahannock County, was killed in an automobile crash.
Two of his teammates suffered injuries.
Even before McKieman's death, the Panthers had several players injured, so Czekaj had to adjust the lineup to plug the holes.
Despite* the setbacks, including being outscored by opponents, 222-26. in those six consecutive losses. Czekaj has been impressed with the work ethic that his Panthers have displayed.
“For three or four weeks after Logan’s death, we were mentally drained," he said. “It's hard for everyone to deal with, but I give them credit for sticking with this, and we have improved."
The Panthers led twice in the first half before the Panthers took control of the game to hold a 28-14 margin at intermission.
While Rappahannock County scored just once in the second half, it controlled the line of scrimmage.
“We moved the ball a lot in the second half" Czekaj said.
The Panthers close the season Friday night at Carson Long Military Academy in Harrisburg, Pa.
