John H. Woodward in a hotly contested race for Sheriff of Rappahannock County on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Sherertz received 1,660 votes, while Woodward only garnered 864 votes.
The Civil War Roundtable met for the secopd time at Jun Gannon’s bookstore, the Old Sperryville Bookshop, on Oct. 26. About 30 people attended and Harold R. Woodward, Jr., spoke on the effects the Civil War had on Madison County.
In what will be considered good news for Rappahannock school athletes, County Administrator John McCarthy reported to the Board of Supervisors that seven bids had been received for the earth moving phase of the new ball field construction. McCarthy noted that the apparent low qualified bidder, Samuel James Construction of Culpeper, had tendered an offer of $106,262.82 for the work.
