Twenty-nine years ago, the Amissville United Methodist Church found itself in need.
The church had become a “station” church, which meant having its own pastor; previously the church had “shared” a pastor with another church. This was a happy time, because it meant the church was growing, but it also meant it needed a parsonage. Thus the annual bazaar was bom.
The women of the church decided to have a small bazaar in the fall of 1980 to help raise funds to build and furnish the parsonage. Although the parsonage was completed in 1983, the bazaar’s growth and success each of those first three years led to the decision to make it an annual event dedicated to missions.
What began as a couple of tables of small handcrafted items, 29 years later has grown into an anticipated community event. The now expanded social hall bursts with beautifully crafted items, white elephant items, and baked goods, and lunch is served to eat in or carry out.
