It seems only fitting that we feature a farming family, the Netus Dodson family, in our search for home-based businesses in Spenyville.
“We just achieved our current goal of 200 head of cattle this year... but our hopes for the future are to increase die herd to 500,” said 24-year-old John Dodson in a recent interview.
Unlike many young men and women from farm families, John sees the future of his family solidly rooted in continuing the tradition of his great-grandfather and his grandfather whose farm was part of what is now Shenandoah National Park. Netus Dodson and his sons, Netus Lee, 30, John and Will, 21, raise cattle and grow hay not only on their own farm in Sperryville but also on land leased on five other farms.
Their mother, Hope, is the secretary for the business and does most of the bookkeeping and billing. They have customers in Rappahannock, Fauquier and Culpeper counties. Both Netus Lee and Will also are employed at Brown Tractor Sales in Culpeper John is available to do just about anything that needs to be done on a farm, including building and fencing.
