Holding to tradition the annual “Hanging of the Greens” service was held at the Chester Gap Baptist Church Sunday as a part of the evening service.
The main part of the service was an explanation of the significance and history of different traditional items used in the Christmas celebration - such as the meaning of the evergreen, the significance of the candles, the history of the poinsettia and the significance of the star.
Some of the most wonderful and beloved hymns were sung like “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” “The First Nowell,” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem.” The service was followed by a time of fellowship enlivened with an ornament exchange along with finger foods. It was truly a delightful service enjoyed by all who were fortunate enough to be able to attend and will be looked forward to next year. A special thanks to Stacy Majors for all of her hard work with the setting up of the greens which are very lovely and inspirational.
