The sum of $3,900 was borrowed under the authorization of the Board of Supervisors, in meeting Wednesday, June 7, when the report of Treasurer Robert L. Brown showed insufficient funds to meet the expenses. This sum will be borrowed on June 30, to be paid by the 1959 taxes. The sum was kept this low by the fact that an amount iwas transferred from the Dog Fund to the general fund and there was also a transfer of about $2900 from the Hampton’ District Road Fund to the general fund.
The board of supervisors was requested <to accept a gift pf $800 from an anonymous donor in order to make up the necessary amount to get a county health nurse. The Tuberculosis Association had stated previously that $590 waa available; from their funds for one year and possibly two, if necessary. At present work is being done to see if $500 can be obtained from $1040 vin the local Red Cross funds to be transferred to the county health fund and the nurse will be assured.
The supervisors gladly accepted the gift, for with the situation such as it is, there were no funds available in the county treasury for such, and the board was glad to accept the generous gift, providing for the county nurse.
A report from Charles Wood on the county 1950 census was read (a copy appears in the paper). The decline in population of the county was cause for comment.
It was voted to increase the taxes on carnivals in the county by a raise of 50 per cent over the old taxes. The former taxes were: on shows, one to two loads, $5; 3-6 loads, $8; 6-10 loads, $15; 11-20 loads, $20; 21-SQ loads, $30; 31-50 loads, $40; and ovor 50 loads, $50. On side < shows,, and - curiosity shows, etc., on a lot with a circus, owned by other than the circus, $15 per day. The new tax rates will add 50 per cent to these taxes.

The board passed a resolution to have state auditors for the accounts and records of the county, including the board of supervisors, the school board, and the board of welfare, for the period ending June 30, 1950.
