Spraying Grapes Needed

Spray grapes thoroughly if you expect to harvest any fruit* advises John M. Amos, associate 'plant pothoiogist at V.P.I.
Amos says for the past two years weather conditions have been very favorable for black rot on grapes. The solution? Generally, you’ll need to spray at least three times during the growing season. To control diseases use ferbam chemicals or bordeaux mixture. To control insects at the same time add DDT wettable powder or methoxychlor.
The first spray should be appled when the shoots are 6 to 10 inches long, or when the third leaf shows. Make the seeond application just before the blossoms open, and the third after the bios, soms fall. No spray should be applied to the open blossoms.
To prevent wormy grapes, spray just before the berries touch in the elueter. •
