« Following is a copy of the report sent by Charlse Wood to the Board of Supervisors in meeting Wednesday morning:
I wish to thank the Board of - Supervisors for the use of the Courthouse room in training the Census Enumerators.
The enumeration is completed for the county. Below I am listing by district the populatoin for 1340 and 1950. District Hampton _ Piedmont_ Stonewall_ Hawthorne_ Jackson ___ Wakefield.

You will notice there has been a decline of 1132 in our county population in the past decade. This means that the county will have less money allotted for roads and schools by the state because the population is one of the factors used in determining a county's allotment. This rate of decline has been in progress for the past’ 30 years. In the last 30 years the population has declined > nearly 3000. If this trend continues, you can readily see what the county population will b^ in 1980. In other words, by 1980 each individual's county tax will be doubled.
You will notice that Piedmont : enjoyed less decline than any other distrcit. This is due primari- V ly to the light seasonal industry located in that area. Doesn’t this indicate that our county needs some type of industry to maintain its present popultaion? I would like to see the Board appoint a Commission to look into the prospect of inviting a suitable industry to locate in the county. Our county is strategically located to serve the Atlantic Coast belt, both north and south.—Charles B. Wood.
