He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Sigma Delta Chi, as well a3 a director of the Richmond Area Community Council and the Richmond Tuberculosis Association. Father of two ehildnen, |he is married to the former Betsy Gayle of Richmond.

Lashley, a natfve of Lawrenceville, is a graduate of HampdenSydney College and the University pf Virginia. He was a reporter oa the Lynchburg News and the Lynchburg Daily Advance, and an instructor of English at HampdenSydney before World War II. During the war he was an officer in the Naval Air Transport Service, with Squadrons VR-11 and VR13 in the Pacific and Asiatic Theatres, and Squadron VR-1 in the Atlantic Theatre.
