Park* Rouse, Jr. ginia Beach, and a reporter on the Richmond News-Leader.
Rouse, a native of Smithfield, was reared in Newport News. He entered the newspaper field as a reporter on the Newport Newa Times-Herald, after graduating from Washington and Lee University in 1937. He was a general and political reporter on the Richmond Times-Dispatch prior to World War II.
For four wartime years, Rouse (was an officer in the U. S. Naval Reserve, and saw action in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno and Saipan. Later he served on the staff of Admiral Chester Nimitz, commander-in-chief of the Pacific Area, at advance base headquarters in Guam.
Rouse was promoted to editorial writer as an assistant to Virginius Dabney after return to the Times-Dispatch in 1946. He became Sunday editor in May. 1948. A winner of Virginia Press Association first prize awards for both editorial and feature writing, Rouse has done special articles for the New York Times, SaturPOLIO
