He also carved some beautiful souvenirs from some of the wood which he secured from the wreck* ed "Willi* tree.” These he sold and turned the money over to the repair fund of the church. The Willis tree was unwittingly cut down while some work was being done to the pike, leaving only the stump standing near the location where the chapel now stands.
The Willis Memorial church stands today not only a monument to Chaplain Willis’ memory, but hlso a monument to the efforts of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Reid without whom it would never have been built.
