Write-In Ballots Await
Tuesday Town Election
With no candidates filed, the ballots for Tuesday’s town election in Washington are printed with the block squares and blank lines. Voters will place the X in the block and write in the seven names, one for mayor and six for members of the town council.
According to information, a list of candidates — all women — has been compiled: Mrs. Achsah Dudley Miller, Miss Ruby Jenkins, Mrs. Dorothy Hawkins, and Miss Elizabeth Racer. It is understood that these ladies have agreed to serve if elected. The names of several others are omitted because they had not been questioned as to whether they would take on the duties, if elected.
The incumbents are; Mayor W. F. Moffett, Jr., and councilmen, L. J. Turner, C. E. Giles, Upton G. Weakley, H. T. Updike, D. C. Updike, and C. T. Bruce.
