Comp Exceed Last Year

John R. Poland, Jr., chairman of the Camping Committee, Boy; Scouts of America, recently announced that reservations already in for summer camp have exceeded last year by Some one hundred boys. Camp Rock Enon is scheduled to open Sunday, June 25, and continue through July 30.

According to <the figures released by Mr. Poland the first week has a total of 98 campers registered, the second '63, third week 97, and fourth week 83. The fifth week is reserved for Negro Scout Troops and has promise of 60 reservations. With additional units planning to go, the attendance is expected to be well over the 400 maifc.

Basil F. Starkey, the Scout Executive, who will direct the camp, is urging all troops not now registered to complete their registration as soon as possible. There is room for 10 or 12 boys in the fourth week, and room for 87 in the second.,

Starkey also announced that the staff is practically complete and that contracts have been sent out. He stated that the staff is one of the finest ever selected for camp, and that the program should be one of the best ever. Four new rifles have been purchased for useon the rifle range, and two canoes have been added to the fleet of boats and canoes.

Saturday, May 20, the seventh annual Rock Enon Day was held and in spite of the weather 100 people came to give the camp its annual face lifting. The dining tables were all painted, as well as the kitchen. New plaster put on the walls of the walk-in refrigerator and Fred Bame has installed refrigeration equipment, which will change the refrigerator from the use of ice to the use of electricity. Screens were made for all the windows of the main lodge,' and numerous other improvements made to the waterfront area.
