As for eggs—Livermore says this looks like a good year to raise more pullets. A good demand for top quality eggs in Virginia markets is expected. Average per capita production of eggs in Virginia in 1960 was 378 eggs, or 17 eggs less, than the national per capita consumption. The deficit is still greater this year. Livermore says every year eggs are shipped into Virginia from other areas to supply the demand. Prices in Virginia average higher than in surplus areas.

Profits for the individual producer may be increased by producing more eggs for summer and fall marketing. This requires starting early hatched chicks of a good laying strain. For egg production, don't buy chicks that wer^ meant to be broilers.
