A to eth od of improving Virthrough organised feeder pig sales ginia’s marketing system of pigs is advocated by A. T. Lassiter, Jr., associate animal husbandman at V.P.I.
He says there are several sections in the State particularly well suited for the growing and sale of feeder pigs. On farms where extra grain is produced, and where ladino clover or some other good pasture is grown, a feeder pig program could be worked profitably into the farm operation.
To date only two feeder pig sales have been held in Virginia... those in Goochland county, where Lassister says, the demand far exceeded the supply. He explains that the aim was to provide farmers in the area, who produce more pigs than needed for home consumption, a market, and also to provide commercial feeders and others a quality feeder pig.
