Remember that young people have high ideals today, even though they may sometimes behave in ways that, to say the least, bring a mild shock to those of the older generation. You may be sure that there are standards <y>ne»rnmg kissing. Young people may not save kisses for the “one and only” but they do realize that kisses become “common” if given indiscriminately. The tignifin cance of the kiss lias primarily in the meaning behind it. In some localties, a friendly goodnight kiss is accepted as a matter of course, if a couple are good friends, and is not to be confused with “petting” or “necking.” It certainly is important that we help our young people develop wholesome ideals concerning boy and girl relationships. The filmstrips, “Boy Meets Girl,” “Boy Dates Girl,” and “Boy Marries Girl” are being shown to many youth groups. The McGraw-Hill films on boy and girl relationships are excellent. Why don’t you encourage your church to provide this type of education for its young people and your children will then profit by such a program when they reach that age? This matter of the hour to get home at night is frequently a perplexing problem that creates much family discord. In general, try to be understanding of the viewpoints of your adolescent boys and girls. Frequently a compromise on the part of both adolescent and parent works fairly well. Remember that the particular hour at which one may be expected to come in depends largely upon the plans for the evening. If boys and girls realize that parents are trying to be reasonable and co. operative, they usually will be willing to let them know by phone if something occurs to keep them out after the anticipated “getting in” time. For older adolescents, many parents do not-set • definite hour but trust them to get in ^Unreasonable hour. For younger adolescents it may be necessary to be more specific as to the time to get in.
