Supervisors Rescind

Recommendations

Further discussions in informal meetings, and' several letters have effected the rescinding of the recommendations made by the Board of Supervisors last week when the board called for an assistant in. the office of Commissioner of Revenue to assess tangible and intangible property.

Mrs. Roberta K. Massie, Commissioner of* Revenue, states that the new plans, as recommended1 by the Board, are not satisfactory with her office, and requested that changes he postponed, following a more complete discussion and understanding.

The law plainly lists that it is required of each property holder that he declare the fair market value of his property, and upon this declaration, he is assesesd.

There is voiced sentiment that this plan is ineffectual, and the recommendations of the Board last week were based upon a plan ’ which has proved successful in another county in the state.

As the matter stands at present, the office of the Commissioner of Revenue will remain as it is until more time and study is given and a satisfactory — or more nearly satisfactory—plan is evolved and agreed upon.
