specialist from V.P.I. conducted a leader training meeting Friday at the Sperryville School Auditorium. Miss Jamison demonstrated that much electricity is wasted in the home because of incorrect lighting. For example: 100 watt bulb, dirty from inside will produce 20 feet candles while new. 100 watt bulb will produce 60 foot candles. A foot candle is a measure of light of a candle one foot away. For general light 16-20 foot candles are required. An adult requires at least 50 foot candles for reading. A good table lamp for reading should be 17" high and placed 20” away from center of your work. In other words the lamp should be in line with your’ shoulder to give best light.
Use a 156 watt white indirect light bulb without a diffusing bowl or a 156 watt bulb plus a defusing bowl.
