Jordan said that there would be no change in the purchase, price under the winter program but there is a change in the acceptable varieties. Under the winter purchase program purchases will be confined to apples grading US No. 1, or better, of the following varieties: Albemarle Pippin and WineSap in size 2%” minimum diameter, or 216 or larger by CQuq£t Golden Delicious, Rome Beauty, Stayman aid York Imperial in size 2%” minimum, or 180 or larger. These are the prncipal marketable varieties in Virginia at this season.
The purchase price will continue to be $1.60 per bushel for size 2%” and $1.80 per bushel for 21” fruit, packed in acceptable containers and -loaded f.o.b. shipping point. On both sizes the grower is allowed a premium of 10 cents a bushel for wrapped, placed packs and for tray paeka.
Jordan said that acceptable containers include bushel baskets, boxes, wirebound crates or fiberboard boxes, provider such containers are in good, clean, acceptable condition and are lidded. Round bottom baskets or fiberboard container* mi^st be new*
It is expected that all apple purchases in Virginia will fee distributed to the School Lunch Program in the State and to certain non-profit institutions.
