More' four million board feet of sawtimber was marked and estim, ated for harvesting by the Virginia Forest Sen ice in Rappahannock County during the year of 1951. This volume of sawtimber selected and cut according to proper forestry practices, which included the marking of only mature, overmature, diseased and damager trees and the leaving of. young, thrifty, growing trees for a future cutting.
During the same year, approximately £,188 acres of woodland were examined and reported on by the Virginia Forest Service in this! County. Many land owners were given advice and recommendations concerning their various problems toward the correct management of their woodlands. This service is free- of charge and does not put the land owner under any obligation. However, there is a small fee charged for the marketing service.
All timberland owners interested in developing our present and future timber supply and harvesting timber as a crop through proper forest management should contact the Virginia Forest Service^ Box 111, Warrcnton, Virginia. A; trained forester will then make an examination of your woodlands and make recommendations as to its proper management.
