To Elect Officers
Election of officers, appointing of committees and the planning of the budget for the Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s 1952-53 season will occupy delegates to the second annual convention of the county chapters of the Virginia Orchestra State Guild,, whichiwill convene in Richmond Tuesday, January 29.
Nominations for the election of state symphony officers were compiled in December for the forthcoming meeting by a committee of three Richmond and Chesterfield civic musical leaders. The duties of elected officers will be administrative and will steer the overall policies of the state symphony.
Among the topics on the agenda of the second annual convention of the State Guild will be a discussion of the current Virginia Orchestra celebrity series and the plan for each chapter to send a music student to next summer’s Blue Ridge Music Festival at Washington, Virginia.
Planned as a luncheon meeting, the second annual convention will bring together musk lovers from 18 counties and will feature the representation of over two dozen Old Dominion towns. Delegates will journey to Richmond from such distant towns as Luray and Narrows and from points as close as Hopewell and Chester.
Among the county chapters of the Virginia Orchestra State Guild to be represented at the convention are Chesterfield, Culpeper, Essex, Giles, Goochland, Greensville,^ Isle of Wright, Louisa, Lower Northern Neck, Madison, Mathews, Middlesex, Mecklenburg, Orange, Page, Richmond, SussexSurry and Pittsylvania.
A bonus attraction has been planned for convention delegates With the January 29 piano recital of Virginia Symphony Orchestra Conductor, William Haaker, At the WRVA Theatre. Designated as a Benefit Concert for the financing of the state symphony’s third annual state tour, thf Haaker recital will also mark thil^musical artist’s first full scale Richmond concert and he assumed conductorship of the Virginia Orchestra three years ago. The Haaker program for this 8:30 Tuesday evening recital will run the musical gamut from Chopin Etudes to Boogie Woogie and will spotlight the Conductor Pianist in his role of piano conversationalist
The second annual convention of the State Guild is scheduled for the Flemish Room of the Jefferson Hotel at 1:30 on Tuesday, January 29.
