An epidemic of rahies among dogs occurred in Texas several years ago. Four, years ago, rabies had spread north and had reached Memphis, Tennessee, where a strict quarantine of dogs was necessary, and inapminiaetion against rabies in order to stop the epidemic. There was no epidemic among the fox in Texas or Tennessee. However,, when rabies spread northward during the last four years, the fox became infected in the northern Virginia area, and are now a menace to all animals in this area. Stray dogs and cats are also a menace.
Rabies was eradicated ip England and in Scandinavian countries by elimination of stray doge and vaccination of dogs against rabies was prevalent.
From the human point of view, all stray dogs and homeless cats should be eliminated in a humane manner in order to put them out f of their misery.
In shifting for themselves, stray dogs raid garbage cans and strew garbage on the streets, and they attack domestc anmals which result in considerable financial loss to the county which provides funds for paying farmers for livestock killed by stray dogs.
