“THIS CONVENTION must prepare itself to wage this all-important crusade to the finish. By proper action before recessing today, it is essential that the delegates here assembled be assured of the opportunity of reconvening if necessary, after the Chicago convention to take such further steps as may be in order for the protection, first of all, of the basic American principles and traditions so dear to all of us; and, secondly, "forcratic Party of Virginia.
“In this endeavor, we shall not stand alone. There are friends and neighbors throughout our Southland of similar mind and like determination. Together, we will stand upon the ramparts of liberty and hold high, for all the nation to see, the banner of genuine Democracy.
“The flag of our country has never trailed in the humiliating dust of defeat. The spirit of our people here in Virginia and the South oft has been trampld but never broken. We cannot fail our flag or our heroes of this and other generations who have given their blood for our liberty, and for the freedom of all Americans.”
