The Old 'Dominion’s scenic ibeauty will receive a melodic fillip again this August when the Blue Ridge Music Festival begins it’s second season of Sunday afternoon concerts in the sylvan glen of Avon Mills just out of Washington.
The Blue Ridge Music Center will present a series of four regular concerts and two bonus attractions each August Sunday afternoon at 4:00 (EST).
A cool “pause for culture” for motorists and a must for music lovers, this season’s festival iwill offer Sunday holidayits a variety of music programs that ’includes two full scale Virginia Symphony Orchestra concerts, a piano recital by Conductor-P i a n i s t William Haaker and a vocal concert spotlighting the baritone talents of Tivis Wicker. In addition to this musical choice, visitors to the Sunday festival programs will also be treated to open air art exhibits featuring the work of both Old Dominion and District of Columbia artists plus picnic facilities. ~
Avon Mills, site of the concerts, is the pre-Revolutionary gristmill which was converted into an orchestra shell for these programs last season. It’s loading level has been turned into a stage and the audience is seated in a cool, well shaded amphitheatre of natural beauty.
Slated for an August 3 “preview” program, the Second Annual Blue Ridge Music Festival will feature William Haaker, Jose Iturbi protege, iii a piano recital on August 10.
