SURFACE TEXTURE Soil texture refers to the relative proportions of sand, silt and day. partides. A% loam is about an equal loam consists of a large proportion of silt with some sand and day. A sandy proportion of sand, silt and clay. Silt loam contains a larger proportion of sand with some silt and clay. Similarly, a day loam contains larger proportion of day with some silt and sand. Surface texture is closely related to workability. It influences how quickly or slowly a soil will wash, water intake and other soil characteristics. Particles of clay are more fine than particles of silt and each is more fine than particles of sand.

SUBSOIL CONSISTENCE

Consistence is the resistence to breakdown or the extent soil particles hold together. A loose soil as ofle would think does not hold. together. A friable soil holds together but crushes easily with slight to moderate pressure A firm subsoil crushes under moderate to strong pressure.
