farmers, like most good businessmen, spend much of their time hunting profits—yet many fail to' bag the profits they might. Profits are in the bushes but many hunters seem unable to find them. For instance, records of the costs are returns from producing com for sale by a group of Virginia farmers show that the cost per acre ranged from a low of $46 to a high of $64. Net returns per acre ranged from $15 to $88. The skilled hunters flushed out $73 per acre that the unskilled could not find. From fifty acres of corn the difference was $3,650. Or take the case of the dairy farmers whose cost of producing one-hundred pounds of milk varied as much as $2.25. Selling at the same price, the low cost producer’s net profit on 3,000 hundred weight of milk was $6,750 more than that of the high co^t producer. Many similar illustrations can be found in all types of farming or any other business. It has been observed that nothing is more variable than profits, lest it be bacteria.
As with other wild game, the

Of course it is.necessary to make up in other ways for the difference in fire power. Too frequently it seems that the hunter depends too much upon the fire power of his rifle and fails to do the other things required for success.
Size of business that gives fire power is not enough to insure success. Poorly handled fire power may do much to bring disaster to the hunter and others in the woods.
